Project Overview: Municipal Food Security Committees (2013-2017)

 

Since 2013, Fundación Alternativas works alongside local governments to create multidisciplinary and multistakeholder working groups known as Municipal Food Security Committees. Members work together to develop legislative and investment proposals aimed at renovating local food systems to ensure these are efficient and equitable.

The Municipal Food Security Committee of La Paz is a multidisciplinary and multistakeholder group composed of members of the local government of La Paz and representatives from different sectors and local organizations. The Committee is dedicated to generating strategies that aim to ensure all people can guarantee their right to food. The Committee was established in December of 2013.

Project Overview: Community Food Garden Lak´a Uta (2014-2016)

 

The community food garden Lak´a Uta is the first of its kind in the city of La Paz. Located in the Cotahuma district, at more than 3600 meters above sea level, the garden is a place where people grow organic, fresh and nutritious food. This project is centered on transforming under-utilized space into green and productive areas. In this community food garden, people of all ages work together, learn from and share with each other, and of course, enjoy the outdoors.

The year 2015 marks the second year of the Project Food and Nutricional Security for Integral Human Development, implemented by Fundación Alternativas, Sociedad Católica San José y Canadian Feed the Children. Activities revolved around three thematic areas of work: food production, healthy eating and youth advocacy.

Project Overview: Food and Nutritional Security for Integral Human Development (2014)

 

The Project Food and Nutricional Security for Integral Human Development began in 2014 and was implemented in the city of La Paz, Bolivia. The institutions responsible for executing the project were Fundación Alternativas, Sociedad Católica de San José and Canadian Feed the Children. The initiative arose from institutional commitments to generate replicable models that seek to empower people to guarantee their right to food.
